Benson Clean & Beautiful thank the many sponsors and volunteers who helped make the second Benson Pony Express Western Days a great success. An event of this magnitude takes months of planning and hard work, but the end result has been well worth the effort.

Thanks: Arizona G&T Cooperatives, for the beautiful plaques for the car show awards. City of Benson, for your generous sponsorship and for providing barricades and bleachers. Thanks Apache Nitrogen Products, Hudbay/Rosemont Copper, Excelsior Mining Corp, Zearings Mercantile, Benson’s New Day Spa, San Pedro Valley News-Sun, DiPeso Realty, SSVEC, Cochise College Benson Center, Arizona Army National Guard, The Shop, and Pioneer Title Agency. Aladdin T-shirts provided the t-shirts for the car show people and for the judges. Promotional items for the “goodie bags” given to each car show applicant were supplied by Brown & Associates, StreetSide Classics, DiPeso Realty, AZ Storage 4 U, City of Benson, SSVEC, Pioneer Title, Census 2020, and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Apache Nitrogen, Ace Hardware, Zearings Mercantile, Cowboy Way, Benson coffee; StreetSide Classics, Walmart, Safeway, Starbucks donated prizes along numerous donations from our vendors.

Thanks to the many participants, both in the car show and tractor pulls. Power from the Past brought some of their best tractors and engines. Benson Pony Express, Tigger the Tiger, and Mickey were enjoyed by all. It was a real treat to have KIIM FM live at our event, and Dave Owens Band for live music and D.J. services. Maricarmen Breazale did a super job entertaining the little ones with her face painting talent. Our 50/50 raffle netted $202, enabling us to give $101 to We Care Pregnancy Center here in Benson.

Benson Pony Express took over the jail and arrested enough ne’er do-wells to raise $50 for the mural project. The five horse and rider teams carried 92 letters and arrived at the Dragoon Women’s Club.

Our 63 car show participants were top notch again. The judges for the car show were Sheriff Mark Dannels, Deputy Jacob Kartchner, and Steve Wilmarth. All participants brought great vehicles.

And finally, a big round of applause for our dedicated volunteers who worked so hard before, Cindy Allen, Lisa Hill, Michelle Johnson, Gay Spivey, Gayle Faarth, Danna Judd, Reagan Wilmarth, Josh Sparkman’s crew, Lyndon Denton, Vicky Konrad , Najayyah Many Horses, Glenn Nichols, Annette and Rick Ingman, and Dan Ball.

Many thanks to all the participants who made this event what it was. With such a wonderful cast of characters, how could we not say “Yes, we’ll do it again next year”?

Cindy Allen
