Taylor Fenn brings the ball down in a recent Ladies’ Bobcats game.

BENSON — Coach Robert Bristow and the Benson Ladies had hoped to go into the holiday break off a third straight league win.

On Friday, the Benson ladies accomplished the feat, defeating visiting Willcox, 55-20, in a 2A East game. Game stats were not immediately available.

The win gives the Bobcats, 8-4 overall their third victory in four games and 2-2 in league games. It was also a nice rebound from a pair of region defeats, a 55-29 loss to Pima on Dec. 10, and a 44-34 defeat Dec. 13 to league-foe Bisbee. The victories give the Benson Ladies a 2-2 conference record headed into the break.

On Tuesday, [Dec. 17] the Bobcats defeated host Tombstone, 62-21, for their first conference win of the season.

Led offensively by junior Emily Darwin and sophomore Shaylin Taylor who are among the region scoring leaders averaging 17 and 10 points per game respectively, Bristow will look for the Bobcats to play with more sustained control as the season wears on and to continue to improve with each game.

The ladies will be tested early on upon return from the break, hosting St. David in a non-league game on Tuesday [Jan. 7], followed by a region game with Jan. 9 at Thatcher. Each game tips at 5:30 p.m.
