Akira Jones – St. David Track & Field
Akira Jones, a senior at St. David High School, is a gold medal winning member of the Tigers’ track & field team. Competing in the shot put, discus, and javelin at the Arizona Division IV state championship meet in May 2019 at Mesa Community College, Akira took first place in the shot put to bring home the gold medal to St. David.
In addition to competing in track & field during her high school years, Akira also competed in basketball and cross country. She was a member of the St. David student council during her junior year, HOSA — this year serving as the organization’s secretary, the NHS, and the National Honor Society of High School Scholars. Akira also earned the distinction of being in the top rankings of the school’s honor roll, the Principal’s List.
Akira volunteered to help run the St. David Middle School’s yearly volleyball tournaments, and her sophomore year she helped make blankets during the school’s Volunteer Day. In her free time, she enjoys weight lifting and art projects.
Following graduation, Akira will be attending the University of Arizona to work on a degree in Biochemistry with her future goals of a master degree in Chemical Engineering. She is also planning to try out for the Wildcats track & field team.
Akira is the daughter of Richard Jones and Jacqueline Gonzalez.
