BENSON — The Bobcats were not about to leave any doubt for the 2A football postseason.
The host Bobcats topped rival Willcox 56-12, to retain the Senney-Lohman Trophy — Benson has won every game since regaining the trophy in 2012 — to post a 7-3 record overall, and 4-0 to claim another San Pedro Section title.
Seniors D’Ondre Villalobos and Carson Barney put an exclamation point on regular season and perhaps the last game they will have played at the Jerry P. Lee Athletics Complex.
Villalobos, 189 yards on six carries, scored three touchdowns, including a 73-yard run on the opening play from scrimmage, then added a 40-yard run on his second touch of the night, setting the tone early. Barney, who ran for 152 yards on five carries, added a pair of TDs, Talon Palmer passed for two and Devin Bowling adding a pick six in the lopsided win.
Brok Determan had five tackles to lead Benson’s defense with Bowling, Colton McFarland and Ryan Francione each getting credit for four tackles.
“I thought we played well,” said Benson Coach Chris Determan, quick to note much work lies ahead. “We just have to get better and get ready for the playoffs,” the coach said.
The Bobcats scored 22 first quarter points and led 38-0 at the half and 44-6 through three quarters.
Willcox finish the year 5-5 overall.
