Fired up!

The Bobcats hope there will be reason to rejoice on the volleyball court.

BENSON — Benson is on the road at Pima on Thursday and will be back home at James Driggers Gymnasium on Tuesday, Oct. 15 when the Bobcats host the Bisbee Pumas in a 2A region game at 6 p.m.

The Bobcats, under first-year coach Katie Maakestad, have shown some resilience on the court bouncing back last week with region wins over Tombstone and Willcox following a 3-0 defeat at non-league St. David.

On Thursday, though, Benson ran into a tough Thatcher team, falling to the host Eagles, 3-0. The Bobcats took part in the weekend’s Chandler Prep Invitational, where they dropped one game to Buena on pool play, 2-0, 20-25, 27-29 and defeated Tonopah Valley, 2-0, 25-13, 25-15. There were no other game scores or stats available. The Bobcats, 6-3 overall, 3-2 in region play, traveled to Morenci on Tuesday [Oct. 8] for another region game. That game was held after the News-Sun’s press time.
