ST. DAVID — Pima snapped St. David’s 5-game winning streak Monday with a 61-38 victory on their home court.
The Roughriders lept to a six point lead early in the first quarter that the Tigers couldn’t overcome. St. David struggled to knock down baskets all night. They scored 12 points in the fourth quarter, which was the most they had in any frame. Pima lead 42-16 at halftime and were able to carry their 26-point lead, 52-26, into the final quarter. Kason Jacquez led the Tigers with 13 points in the loss, all of which came in the third quarter.
St. David entered Monday’s game on a high as they defeated Benson 52-45 last Friday on their home court.
Benson had a rough week. The Bobcats were 1-2 in their three games last week. They lost on the road 55-48 to Willcox on Jan. 28 but rebounded with a 51-50 win over Desert Christian at home last Thursday. Benson looks to get back to their winning ways in their final two games of the regular season.
Both Benson and St. David played on Tuesday after the News-Sun went to press. Benson closes their season out on Thursday at Morenci while St. David starts the 1A South region tournament on Friday.
