ST. DAVID — The host Tigers dispatched visiting Miami Friday in straight sets to finish the regular schedule unbeaten at 17-0 overall and 10-0 in region play.

The Tigers, under the guidance of longtime coach Tylene Miller, will now eye the upcoming 1A State Volleyball Tournament underway Nov. 8 at Coronado High School in Phoenix.

In Friday’s Senior Night game, Kyla Trejo went 18 for 18 with 1 aces from the service line with Goldi Merrill turning in a 16 for 16 showing with a pair of ace and Kyra Richardson was 12 for 12 with an ace.

Kyra Richardson also provided the power behind a nine-kill showing with Jaylin Richardson and Jaelyn Goodman each recording seven kills. Kyla Trejo helped feed the hitters with 33 assists.

Defensively Brylee Murray recorded 14 digs, Kyla Trejo had 13 and Kyra Richardson and Goldi Merrill each with 12 led the Tigers.

The Tigers dropped only three games all season in the Gopher Get Down tournament Oct. 18-19 in which St. David placed third overall. The tournament defeats are not reflected in the overall standings.

Miller commented on St. David’s showing in Florence.

“I was very pleased with the way the girls played,” she said. “We have some things to work on before State, but as long as we keep improving and working hard I see great things happening.”

Senior Megan Merrill added: “I love playing with this team and seeing how well we perform when we are working together,” said senior Megan Merrill. “I am excited to work hard these next two weeks and can’t wait to see what state brings.”

St. David sits atop the 1A South standings and as of press time held the overall No. 2 ranking. Mogollon stood at No. 1.
