BENSON — The Bobcats finished the season strong with defeats over Academy of Tucson on the road Thursday to go with the Senior Night triumph.

The Bobcats, under the direction of head coach Gary Douglas, finish the season 7-3 overall, 3-1 in region play and ranked 10th overall. The state tournament features an eight-team bracket.

Joseph Lutz got things going Saturday in the 2-0 win over Desert Christian at the Jerry P. Lee Athletics Complex, finding the net with his goal in the first half with Alexis Torres providing the add-on goal in the second half.

“I’m thankful to the seniors, Steven Coleman, Cade Jones, Donovan Martell, Joseph Lutz, Nhaya Paden and manager Isabella Astorga,” said Douglas. “Soccer is a difficult sport, demanding physically and mentally, this group embraced the challenge and set an amazing example for the future of Bobcat soccer.”

On Thursday, Benson topped the host Linx at Academy of Tucson, 8-0. Adolfo Navarro, Alex Romero, Ryan Dunivan, Joseph Lutz, Caid Jones, Camden Waite, Haven Fuentes and Alexis Torres all scored goals for the Bobcats.

Benson had been originally scheduled to close out the season Thursday at Greenfields but that school closed down.
