Host St. David started the 1A 8-man football season with a bang Thursday, one week after the initial home opener was washed out by rain.
Albeit a week later the Tigers did not disappoint the home crowd assembled at Apache Nitrogen Stadium. St. David stormed past Cibecue/Dischii Biko 45-0. The 42-point score differential brought a halt to the non-region contest with just over five minutes remaining in the first half, and just in time as another monsoon downpour belted the area.
The Tigers put up 38 first quarter points en route to the victory. Logan Davis three for three touchdowns connecting with Skyler Merrill, Reo Larson and Kason Jacquez. Davis completed seven of 10 passes for 103 yards and an interception.
Talon Haynie rushed for 85 yards on four carries with a touchdown and Robbie Gooding pulled down four receptions for 38 yards to help pace the Tigers’ offense. Larson accounted for three PAT kicks as the Tigers had 193 yards in total offense.
Larson recorded six sacks and Merrill five for 11 of 33 team tackles. Talon Haynie and Bobcat Pacheco recorded sacks, Haynie’s for a safety, and Gooding added an interception to his credit.
The Tigers, 1-0, are on the road five consecutive weeks and are not home until Oct. 11 homecoming against Baboquivari. kickoff is St. David hosts Baboquivari on Oct. 11 in the Tigers’ homecoming.
