Kyla Trejo recorded 29 assists in the win over Gregory School.

ST. DAVID — Prowess on the volleyball court is not a new thing as it pertains to the St. David Tigers.

Perennially a threat in the postseason, this year’s Tigers are on a path toward perfection, having reeled off 12 consecutive wins against no losses heading into this week’s prep volleyball action.

The second ranked Tigers, 12-0 and 6-0 in region play, host Valley Union on Thursday and Tombstone on Friday in a pair of non region games. Each game is set for a 5 p.m. start time.

Host St. David defeated Lourdes 25-1,25-4,25-2 on Tuesday [Oct. 1], then topped Gregory School, 25-7, 25-16, 25-19 on Thursday.

Against Lourdes, Goldi Merrill enjoyed a stellar serving game, nailing 56 of 57 with 23 aces and Kyla Trejo was perfect 31 for 31 with 14 aces. Sydney Klump was 12 for 12 with six aces and Jaelyn Goodman 11 for 11 with five aces.

Klump, Megan Merrill, Kyra Richardson, Kyla Trejo, and Kayla Judd each had two kills and Camilla Freestone added another.

St. David took care of Gregory next, 25-7, 25-16, 25-19. Brylee Murray led the Tigers at the service line on an 18 of 20 game with five aces and Kyla Trejo went 20 for 21 with four aces.

Kyra Richardson went 17 for 19 with a pair of aces and Klump 21 for 23 with five aces.

Megan Merrill had nine kills and Judd had six to lead the Tigers’ hitters while Murray had 13 serve receives and 15 digs. Kyla Trejo, with 29 assists, was more than formidable setting up the hitters.

St. David will have ample opportunity to work on their game, competing in the Gopher Get Down tournament in Florence on Friday, Oct. 18. The Tigers resume region play Oct. 21 at Patagonia in a 5 p.m. game with the Lobos.
