BENSON — Cross country Randy Barney is pleased thus far by the Bobcats’ progress. And for good reason with the boys and girls posting strong efforts.
On the girls’ side, sophomore Amity Hall topped a 36-runner field to take the top spot at the Bisbee Invitational last week. Hall covered the 3.1 mile course in 21 minutes, 35 seconds, and Dalia Moroyoqui placed fourth, 22:45, to help lead the Bobcats to their third place finish.
Hall finished ahead of last year’s region champion Kiera Lumpkin of Bisbee who clocked in at 21:45. Siarra Wilson placed 12th overall at 24:36 and Brooke Schmidt [28:18] and Delma Santiago were the Bobcats fourth and fifth runners at 24th and 26th overall.
The girls followed that up taking the top team spot behind clean sweep with the first three places at Camp Verde on Saturday with Hall winning her second race of the week with Moroyoqui close behind to take the overall second spot. Wilson placed third, Schmidt 13th and Santiago17th.
The boys ran to a third place team finish, led by Sean Laura’s fourth-place effort and Zach Laura’s 12th-place showing. Rounding out the field were Justice Dallaportas,13th; , Joseph Akers, 17th, Kolby Barney, 21st; and Jason marks 22nd. T
“Both of these teams are working extremely hard and have great attitudes,” said coach Randy Barney. “They are a lot of fun to coach.”
