BENSON — The Bobcats will look to capitalize on the momentum generated over their most recent outings as they’ll head north for the White Mountain Holiday Classic invitational tournament.

On Friday host Benson topped Willcox, 58-37, in a 2 East game. The victory improves the Bobcats to 4-3 overall, 2-1 in section play. It was also the Bobcats’ third win in four games and a good way to enter the upcoming tournament.

The Bobcats are among the 17-team tournament field at Blue Ridge High School in Lakeside on Jan. 2-4. Benson opens tournament pool play Jan. 2 in a 10 a.m. game with Ganado, followed by a 2 p.m. game with Florence. The tournament will feature some of the top teams representing schools from 6A to 2A, while affording each team at least two games a day.

The White Mountain Holiday Classic Invitational is a boys only tournament. In addition to the Bobcats and host Blue Ridge, Mountain View, Ash Fork, San Luis, Marana, Desert Christian, Ganado, Gophers, Ft. Thomas, Show Low, Chinle, Gila Ridge, Yuma Catholic, San Tan Foothills, Tanque Verde and Copper Canyon are entered.

The Bobcats bounced back Tuesday [Dec. 17] with a 42-26 region win at Tombstone, a day removed from a close 60-57 non-league defeat at Patagonia on Monday. Friday’s victory enabled the Bobcats to end the week on a high note.
