ST. DAVID — Host St. David defeated visiting Benson in straight sets then followed that up with wins over Valley Union and Duncan to keep their unbeaten record intact.
The Tigers entered this week’s play at 10-0 overall. St. David hosted Lourdes Catholic on Tuesday after the press time. That was the first of two home games this week with Gregory School visiting St. David on Thursday at 5 p.m.
St. David put together a near flawless effort in the Sept. 24 matchup with the river-valley rival Bobcats before a raucous crowd.
“It was an awesome game,” said coach Tylene Miller. “They haven’t been tested in a lot of our games. I was proud of the way they focused and played together as a team. We have a lot of talent on this team and I’m expecting great things from them.”
The Tigers won by scores of 25-8, 25-14, and 25-20.
The Bobcats struggled to gain any sustained consistency throughout, showing some flashes in the final set.
Jaylin Richardson had strong game at the net with 11 kills and nine blocks with Megan Merrill adding nine kills. Brylee Murray had 23 digs, to go with 13 serve receives with Kyla Trejo helping set up the hitters with 26 assists.
“It was such a fun game getting to compete at a higher level than we have been seeing all season,” commented Richardson. “Our team really came together and pulled off a win.”
At Valley Union on Thursday, the Tigers stopped the Blue Devils 3-0, 25-12, 25-18, 25-13. At Duncan, after dropping the first set, took the next three for the 3-1 win.
