BENSON — Alexis Torres and Alex Romero scored goals and the Bobcats followed that up Wednesday with their second shutout win of the week.

The Bobcats parlayed the pair of goals, Torres’ early on in the 2A region contest, and Romero’s shot that just eluded the Desert Christian goalkeeper just before the first half came to an end to notch the 2-0 region win.

“It’s always nice to get a conference win,” commented Benson coach Gary Douglas, following the hard fought game at Udall Park in Tucson. “Hopefully this will keep carrying us forward.”

It did.

The Bobcats followed the Sept. 17 win at Desert Christian with a 7-0 triumph of Academy of Tucson the following day. Benson entered last week’s game off a 3-1 showing in the Show Low Invitational. The Bobcats defeated Desert Christian, 2-1; Page, 1-0; and Grand Canyon, 3-2. The lone loss came to St. Johns by the 4-1 count.

Benson played in Patagonia on Monday in a region encounter with the Lobos and the first of three straight road games for the Bobcats before the Oct. 4 Old Pueblo Classic in Tucson. The Bobcats are at Rancho Solano Prep on Wednesday at 5 p.m. and at Willcox Oct. 5 for a region game. The game is set for a 4 p.m. start.

The Bobcats, 2-1 overall, entering this week’s action, await the official team rankings set for release Tuesday. Those rankings however came after press time.
