St. David topped Academy of Tucson and Hayden and hung close with Thatcher.

On Wednesday, Brylee Murray had four hits, Jaelin Goodman tripled and while Megan Merrill and Murray doubled to lead the Tigers who made the most of eight hits in the 11-1 win over Hayden. Daisy Merrill and Kyra Richardson also had hits. Hayden scored in the top of the third in a defensively-challenged game with Hayden committing six errors and St. David four.

Jaylin Richardson fired the one-hitter, fanning five, a game removed from the Monday [April 1] no hitter in St. David’s 15-0 win over Academy of Tucson. She recorded seven strikeouts and also collected three hits and four RBIs. Kyra Richardson and Megan Merrill posted multi-hit efforts with Murray, Daisy Merrill, Lia Pacheco, Mackenzie Comaduran and Ashlee Romero getting in on the 12-hit parade.

Behind a six-run first, four-run second and two-run third, the Tigers held the commanding 12-0 lead through three, adding three fifth-inning runs in the shutout victory.

At Thatcher on Thursday the Tigers scored five runs in the first and added one in the second before Thatcher’s three-run second and four-run third. St. David responded with a six-run fourth only to surrender 10 runs and the lead in the bottom half of the frame and five in the fourth in the 22-12 loss.

St. David collected 10 hits but committed 13 defensive miscues that led to 16 unearned runs.

Kyra Richardson went 4 for 4 and Jaylin Richardson picked up a pair of hits. Daisy Merrill, Megan Merrill, Comaduran and Romero recorded hits as well and Jaylin Richardson fanned seven in 4 ⅔ innings in the circle.

The Tigers face non-league Benson on Friday and host Valley Union on Monday. Each game is set for a 4 p.m. start time. St. David hosted Baboquivari on Tuesday, after press time.
