St. David will be the first of the area high school teams to see action when their football season begins next month.
The Tigers, under the direction of head coach Braden Davis, will play two of their first three games at home. St. David opens its 8-man football schedule on Aug. 23, hosting Mayer and Cibecue on Aug. 29, before heading to NFL YET in Phoenix on Sept. 6 for what will be the first of four consecutive road games. The Tigers close the season with three straight home games.
The Tigers improved by leaps and bounds last season, posting a more than respectable 5-4 overall record one year removed from a 1-7 season. Davis is about to begin his third year as head coach after having been a longtime assistant.
St. David will again align out of the 1A South Region.
On the volleyball court, under longtime coach Tylene Miller, the perennially strong Tigers will look to make another run for a state championship. St. David will open the 2019-20 season on the road at NFL YET on Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. and host Tohono O’Odham on Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. for the Tigers’ home opener.
