SAN PEDRO VALLEY — Dust off the chairs, grab the sunflower seeds and break out the sunscreen, prep spring sports are underway.

The 2A state softball runner-up Bobcats begin play Thursday in the Dorado Classic tournament in Tucson against host CDO at Lincoln Park in Tucson at 10 a.m. The Bobcats follow that up with a noon encounter with Cactus Shadows followed by 4 p.m. game with Eastwood El Paso. On Friday the Bobcats play Marana at 10 a.m. with bracket play to be determined.

The Dorado Classic features powerhouse programs from Tucson, Phoenix and El Paso, and will give the Bobcats plenty of innings against high-caliber opposition. The Bobcats open their 2A schedule on Tuesday [March 3] at Desert Christian at 4 p.m.

St. David baseball and softball see action Wednesday [Feb. 26] at Duncan at 3:45 p.m. and are on the road Thursday at Tombstone for a 3:30 p.m. start time.

Benson tennis is at Willcox on Thursday at 3 p.m. The Bobcats are home Friday against Morenci and Tuesday [March 3] against Willcox. Both are at 2 p.m.

The Benson baseball team begins play Wednesday [Feb. 26] with a 6 p.m. game with Catalina in their opener of the Cowboy Up tournament at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson. The Bobcats, under direction of coach Fred Trujillo, will play Pueblo on Thursday [Feb. 27] at 3 p.m., Sabino on Friday [Feb. 28] at 3 p.m. and Rincon at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The Bobcats’ golf team begins the season at home on Tuesday [March 3], at 2 p.m. hosting Bisbee, Morenci and Willcox at San Pedro Golf Course. The Bobcats are on the road Wednesday [March 4] at 3:30 p.m. at Tanque Verde at 49er Country Club.

The Bobcats’ track teams will open their respective seasons at the Ted James Invitational Track Meet in Douglas on March 7.

St. David tennis season begins Tuesday [March 3] with the Tigers on the road in Bisbee at 3:30 p.m. St. David hosts Tombstone on March 5 at 3 p.m.
