BENSON — The Bobcats are making headway on the volleyball court, entering Tuesday’s non-league volleyball game at unbeaten St. David with a 5-1 overall record.

On Thursday, Benson bested Bisbee, 3-1, in region matchup in a hotly contested battle with the Pumas. Benson won by scores of 26-24, 24-26, 25-17, 27-25.

The win was a bounce back one for the Bobcats who entered that contest off the heels of a 3-1 defeat at Pima on Sept. 17.

First year Benson head coach Katie Maakestad is pleased thus far with the continuing progress, which she said will need to continue if the Bobcats are to achieve their lofty goals.

“I’m really stressing team unity, chemistry, communication and fluidity,” the coach said. “We have some really amazing talent, we just need to pull it together as a team on the court. We’ve dealt with some adversity as a team already, which allows us to use and grow from, which I’m glad it has happened this early in the season, so that we can continue to grow and get better. We have been working with multiple lineups which is difficult at best. I’m hoping to hone in on some regular lineups, but even with that, the bench has been getting out there and getting it done. We have set some big goals as a team and we are working hard to achieve them.”

Following the game at St. David, the Bobcats have a pair of region games, hosting Tombstone on Wednesday at James Driggers Gymnasium and will travel to Willcox on Thursday. Each game is set for 6 p.m. start time.

Tuesday’s game at St. David was held after press time.
